Aeroports de Montreal : Re-Establishing the Facts-Legal Proceedings

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC–(Marketwired – Sept. 22, 2016) – Following legal proceedings announced by the citizens group Les Pollués de Montréal-Trudeau, Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) wishes to make the following clarifications.

Soundscape management is a priority for ADM, and since 1995 the NEF (Noise Exposure Forecast) contour has shown a reduction in noise around Montréal-Trudeau Airport. The number of people living beneath the contour has decreased by 91.6% and the contour area has declined by 58.8% during the same period.
Despite major growth in the number of passengers, the number of aircraft movements (landings and takeoffs) at the airport has remained stable.

ADM has eight noise-measurement stations, including a mobile unit. It publishes the Leq (equivalent continuous sound level) readings recorded by the various stations in the vicinity of the airport. Leq is also the noise-measurement indicator used by Québec’s Transport and Environment ministries.

The noise-measurement stations are strategically located along the runway centre lines. The equipment has been installed and calibrated by independent professionals. The noise measurements are analyzed by professional acoustic engineers. The system is interconnected with the radar data from NAV Canada, which ensures correlation of the noises measured with aircraft movements.

In closing, ADM will not comment further on the legal proceedings.
