In today’s time and age, competition has become fierce, and books are not the only source to gain information and knowledge for studies. A pupil always needs more sources at his hand, to diversify his learning sphere, and to expand his horizon of education. Books or libraries alone are not enough. Even e-books are not enough, when it comes to university subjects.
We are at a time when technology is changing so fast that it is becoming tough for universities, colleges, and schools to keep up. And in this challenging era, it is completely a student’s own responsibility to understand things, and know what is working in the market, and ultimately, what will land him in a good job once he completes his course. Technology is improving education, but education and learning are two different things. The question we must ask ourselves is – does technology improve learning?
There are many ways a student can use technology to boost studies, and some of them are:
- Familiarize Children with technology at an early stage – Gone are the days when a computer was introduced to a child in middle school or high school, and students did not have access to computers at all. Now, all parents have laptops, mobile phones and tablets at home, hence it is their responsibility to familiarize their kid with technology at an early age and teach him the basics. Although, children these days are smart enough to teach their parents! But, once a child learns how to operate a device and use it for his benefit, he can discover new ways of finding information on it, and boost his knowledge.
- Play Interactive Games and have sessions – Technology is benefiting education in more than one ways. Education and learning are not only about reading books and getting bored. It is also about fun and interactive sessions that can be held within and outside a classroom. Students will not only gain more interest in that class, but it will also help them learn faster and in a better manner. They will easily grasp a lot of knowledge in short time when they will be actively participating in something that they are interested in. Some games can also be played by using technology like there are many tutorials online, and many online classroom courses which can teach you, new games to play with children.
- Avail Services online at cheap prices – You do not need to pay higher prices or spend a fortune on getting services like academic writing online. There are many freelancers, who have a high-quality portfolio and they are also willing to do the job on nominal and genuine rates. It might take some time to find out the best professionals, but it is not hard. There are many online websites and portals that provide help with homework writing. This way, you can outsource your work to freelance experts and professional writers, and focus on other subjects. This is how technology is helping education.
- Allow students to use Gadgets in class – Some teachers think that allowing students to use iPad and their mobile phones in class, is beneficial. Just that you should ‘assign’ them some task that they should perform using those devices. Mostly it is preferred that students should essentially keep their phones away or leave them outside the class, before entering, but some teachers think that by doing so, students cannot focus as their focus is mostly in the phone and they keep thinking about the device that they have left outside. Phones are very habit-forming, that is why people may even get frustrated due to the need to part with their smartphone for some time. Hence, allowing students to use mobile phones or tablets in class will enhance their learning experience, and it will also make them focus on studies. By allowing them to do so, the teacher will also gain more trust and admiration from students, and many students revealed that they respected those teachers more, who understood them and their needs.
- Online Assignment Submission – Make your assignment submissions online, which leads to less paper wastage. If you ask the students to print the assignment and submit the hard-copies or files to you in your office, you are one of the old-school teachers, who have not understood the real potential of technology. Now, teachers are majorly asking students to either mail them the assignments or send them the work on online portal of the college or university. By adopting this habit, paper wastage will substantially be reduced, and it will also lead to more students working honestly on the assignments, because when you receive something online, you can easily check if it is copied or not, by using many software and programmes. While on a hard-copy, it is tough to do this.
