Minimalist Packing Made Simple

Minimalist Packing Made Simple

Let’s face it, at the beginning and end of every trip, we all dread having to pack and unpack our luggage, several bags of it sometimes. Fortunately, this sinking feeling can be avoided. Packing like a minimalist will save room and time regardless of where you go. Follow these easy steps and be on your way in no time:

  1. Plan Accordingly
  2. Choose Your Luggage
  3. Take the Essentials
  4. Pack Your Clothes/Shoes

Plan Accordingly

Next, think about what you’ll take with you. Clothes, shoes, essentials, chargers, how much luggage you’ll need, how long you will be gone, temperature and weather. Then try to pack your bag no more than 90% of its capacity. You’ll be assured plenty of room, especially if you bring back small souvenirs.

Choose Your Luggage

Ideally, you should be able to fit anything into a carry-on bag. Learn what the carry-on requirements are when traveling by plane, and choose your luggage accordingly. Even when traveling by another method, a carry-on bag is the perfect size. If you do not currently own a bag of that size, or perhaps it’s time for an upgrade, you can choose from a wide assortment of carry-on luggage.

Take the Essentials

No matter where you go, certain items are a must-have. You will need to brush your teeth, comb your hair, shave, etc. Pack these items and nothing more; there is no reason to bring a 64 oz bottle of shampoo for a 3-5 day trip.

Think small. That’s why there are travel-sized products. They take up less room and can be easily replaced, even while you’re on the road.

Do not pack anything that you may or may not use. Doing so will take time and room that may not be able to be spared. Only pack what you know is essential, not what you might use.

Pack Your Clothes/Shoes

Packing your clothes and shoes will be the most difficult part of this process, but also the most rewarding.

In order to be minimalistic in your approach, pack only what you will wear and nothing else. Don’t back a bathing suit “just in case” if you know you won’t get in the pool. The clothes you are wearing on your way to your destination can be the same as on your return trip. Many times, pants and jeans can be worn more than once. Most hotels also have laundry facilities. You only need one pair of shoes, maybe two depending on your plans. Once you’ve figured out what you’re wearing you can roll or fold your clothes to make them fit into your bag.

These simple and necessary steps will give you the advantage you need over other travelers to get in and out of locations quickly and easily at all times. All that’s left to do is pick a travel destination!
