Teachers protest for more funding

MONTREAL – On Saturday, thousands of teachers of the Autonomous Federation of Teachers (FAE), accompanied by parents and students, will protest in the streets, demanding a massive reinvestment in education.

Protesters will gather at 1 pm at Place Gennevilliers-Laliberté, in front of the Maisonneuve Market, in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.

The AWF has released in a statement that the protestor’s route is as follows: They will pass in front of the dilapidated neighborhood schools to draw attention to the challenges of the public school system in Québec.

Emphasis will also be focused on the financing of services for children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds or who are mentally challenged and in need.

Eight unions representing 32,000 teachers are under the banner of the AWF.
