A capacity crowd at the Parc de la Francophonie witnessed George Thorogood and the Destroyers absolutely nail it on the Scène Loto-Québec stage.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s now time for the main event, the undisputed, undefeated heavyweight rock and roll champion of the world – George Thorogood and the Destroyers.
‘How sweet this is. Let’s have a rock party tonight’, said George. So we did.
George Thorogood and the Destroyers came for a party – a full on, mega rock party. And that’s exactly what everyone got.
On top form, the boys from south of the border delivered. Big time.
They came out swinging right from the off with Rock Party and didn’t stop until the 12-strong set was done.
Thorogood is a showman of the highest order and loves playing to the crowd. The guitar swinging, the strutting, the bum waggling, the hair combing, the big smiles – it was all there. And the audience lapped it up.
Lead singer and guitarist George Thorogood was in his element with the Destroyers Jim Suhler on guitar, Buddy Leach on saxophone, Jeff Simon on drums and Billy Blough on bass guitar having a blast too.
The show just got better and better as the evening wore on.
‘Hot damn here I am. I’m loving this Sunday night rock party in Quebec City. Merci’, said George as he launched into Help Me.
I drink alone, One bourbon one scotch one beer, and Get a haircut whipped the crowd up. So much so that there was some serious dancing going on.
The patter with the crowd continued. There was a great big mutual love-in going on.
‘What do you say we jump into the rock part of the program. That’s what you came here for.
You’re not afraid of a little rock are you?’
‘This band has been playing for quite a few years now. We first had the opportunity to come to this wonderful country in 1978.
We appreciate the loyalty of our Canadian fans. Our French Canadian fans’.
‘Is everybody happy? Then mission accomplished.
You people are crazy, that’s why we love you.
This wraps up Canada.
All the way from Prince George to here.
We saved the best until last.’
Bad to the bone followed to a great reception.
‘I am George and I cannot sing. I just drink with the band.
You people are beautiful. Thank you so much’.
‘Do you feel it?’, says George as he throws a guitar pick into the crowd.
‘Good night everybody.
Good bless Quebec. Quebec City’.
The band returned to perform Madison blues as an encore.
This was no $20 gig – this was one big bad to the bone rock and roll party.
